Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and went on to become the most streamed song within six months. This blend of reggaeton and pop music didn't just bring people back to this style, but also to Latin music all over the world. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016 compared to two in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 the number of songs that made it was 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians have begun collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna along with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw alejandro, was looking to change things up. He often included elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
